México.- Estados Unidos anunció este 10 de septiembre la detención de casi 2 mil integrantes de cárteles mexicanos y decomisó 12 toneladas de metanfetamina, en un operativo llamado “Escudo de Cristal”.
El fiscal general William Barr, junto con el director de la DEA, Timothy J. Shea, anunciaron los resultados del operativo, que culminó con la aprehensión de mil 840 individuos encargados de la distribución de drogas en Estados Unidos.
El operativo ha dejado además el decomiso de 284 armas de fuego y 921 millones 979 mil 770 pesos provenientes del narcotráfico.
Las acciones golpearon principalmente a los Cárteles de Sinaloa y Jalisco Nueva Generación, indicó Barr.
La acción inició en febrero y se enfocó en 9 centros de distribución repartidos por todo el país: Atlanta, Dallas, El Paso, Los Ángeles, Houston, Nueva Orleans, St. Luis, San Diego y Phoenix. Fue en estas ciudades que se decomisó el 75 por ciento del total de la metanfetamina reportada por la DEA en 2019.
El fiscal acotó que los traficantes de droga comenzaron a comunicarse vía Whatsapp para sus operaciones, y celebró los resultados del operativo, pese a la pandemia de coronavirus Covid-19.
